April’s Accounting & Tax Calendar – Important Dates
Staying on top of important dates and deadlines is more than just a task—it’s your roadmap to financial success. From tax filings to financial reviews, each date plays a crucial role in your business journey.
General Bookkeeping and Accounting April Important Dates
April 1st: Obtain and store monthly bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial statements from prior month.
April 2nd: Review past due receivables.
April 5th: Record prior month accounting adjustments and reconcile financial accounts.
April 10th: Review and file state tax filings (i.e. sales, use, excise, etc).
April 15th: Review inventory status.
April 20th: Review budgeted financials versus actual financial results.
April 25th: Backup and store accounting and financial data.
April 30th: Update vendor W-9 information.
Individual Taxes April Important Dates
April 15th: Deadline for 2023 income tax or tax extension (Form 4868) filing, and payment. Remember, even if you choose to file an extension, you are still required to pay any taxes you may owe.
April 15th: Deadline to make IRA and HSA contributions for 2023 tax year. For individual income tax return filers, this also marks the final day to make contributions to your IRA or HSA for the 2023 tax year. After this date, you generally can’t make contributions for the previous tax year.
April 15th: First quarter 2024 estimated tax payment due.
Business, Partnerships, C-Corps, S-Corps Taxes April Important Dates
April 15th: 2023 taxes for C-Corporations are due. Businesses organized as C-Corporations need to file form 1120 by April 15, 2024, if they are a calendar year business. If your business uses a fiscal year, you need to file your tax return by the 15th day of the third month following the close of your tax year.
April 15th: First quarter 2024 estimated tax payment due for C-Corporations.
April 30th: First quarter 2024 federal payroll tax filing and deposit due date.
